No Surprise 03:11
See myself in autumn's gaze (Be there when the sun goes down) I've been loved I've been betrayed (By the stars I'll find my way) Million futures past away (Scattering in summer's rays) See myself in autumn's sighs (Be there when the well runs dry) Who's that in the mirror not I (Angel face with Devil's eyes) Waiting for the changing tides (Lost myself I don't know why) Gone to Hell its no surprise (Swirling in a blue demise) All my words just make me tired (Another day cast to the pile) Really no surprise our fears are calling hear them calling Cracks form in the sky the pieces falling pieces falling Feel the long goodbye we're waiting for it waiting for it Really no surprise at all

I've been up I've been out Feeling sick Feeling Down On my own in a crowd Seeing it Feeling it Never a part of it Never speak nothing fits I got a message to you from the bottom I want no part of this Shake myself free of it Telling jokes Telling lies Why do I even try Even worse in the night Seeing it Feeling it Never a part of it Never speak nothing fits I got a message to you from the bottom Turn yourself on to it Make yourself free of it I got a message to you from the bottom I want no part of this Shake myself free of it Turn yourself on to it Make yourself free of it

about

These songs came about during a winter road-trip to Bastille Studios to track drums for Message from the Bottom with engineer and friend T.J. Lipple. The tracks came together so quickly we had time to work out an arrangement for No Surprise which we’d only played once or twice together. The creative environment (and ticking clock) created the right combination of purpose and energy to finish the song tracked together as a band, and we left excited about what we were able to accomplish - including a fantastic keys section played on a real Wurlitzer by Dave! Additional guitars and vocals were recorded and the songs mixed in home studios. These tracks were inspired by the Death of Tom Petty who’s music was and is an inspiration to the band, and fittingly have a more classic rock sound than Daybreak.
